Introduction I. ISAIAH THE PROPHET The name Isaiah means “The Lord is salvation,” that is, “the Lord is the source of salvation.” The two parts of the name seem to stand in the relation of subject and predicate. This construction is preferable to taking the first part as a construct, “the salvation of the Lord.” Nor should the first part of the name be regarded as a verbal form, since the Qal of ysʿ1 does not occur.
